Bluetooth 6.0 and iPhone Find My function

The Find My app on the iPhone and all other Apple devices benefits from an efficiency boost with the release of Bluetooth 6.0 this week.

The “Channel Sounding” feature in Bluetooth 6.0 provides billions of future Bluetooth devices and accessories with “true distance awareness”.

According to the organization behind Bluetooth, this technology will achieve centimeter-level accuracy over considerable distances, allowing users to find their lost items more easily and quickly.

Apples precision finding function

Already running in its precision Find My app is Apple's invention feature that uses ultra-wideband technology to help users pinpoint the exact location of certain accessories.

The feature is available on the iPhone 11 and subsequent models, which can be used at any time to find an AirTag or second-generation AirPods Pro charging case.

Apple could use Bluetooth 6.0 and ultra-wideband simultaneously to optimize accuracy finding. The latest Bluetooth version also paves the way to offering the accuracy of exact location finding for devices that do not have ultra-wideband chips built in, such as the Apple TV's Siri Remote and devices sold by other manufacturers.

The first devices with Bluetooth 6.0 are expected in 2025 because manufacturers and developers have only recently received the specifications.
