“XY History” cannot match the success of the original

ZDF launched two new formats on Wednesday, but at least at the start, neither of them achieved the ratings success hoped for. The new “XY History” only reached 2.09 million viewers in prime time, and a further episode after that reached exactly 2 million. With 9.4 and 8.8 percent market shares among the total audience, the spin-off of the still extremely successful “Aktenzeichen XY” remained well below the channel average. Among 14- to 49-year-olds, it achieved 7.9 and 7.5 percent.

The second new ZDF format was “Am I right? Three judges for all cases” and started in the early evening slot at 7:25 p.m. However, only 1.28 million people watched the first show, which corresponded to a market share of just 6.7 percent. With a market share of 3.4 percent, the new show was a flop among young audiences. Incidentally, the new legal format followed “Duel of the Garden Professionals – My Green Paradise” in the slot, which has performed consistently better recently.

Good news for Mainz residents, however, comes from ZDFneo. The special interest channel was able to perform well again in prime time – and was probably helped by the weakness of the main program. An old “Wilsberg” crime drama even cracked the 2 million mark, with 2.02 million viewers ensuring a 9 percent market share. “Nord Nord Mord: Clüver und der tote Koch” later also achieved a very strong 8 percent, with 1.41 million viewers.

And that's the first thing that was broadcast in prime time from the Paralympics. Overall, there were no big jumps, but with just over two million viewers and market shares that are just over the 10 percent mark, people will probably be satisfied. Especially since there were also double-digit figures among 14- to 49-year-olds; the athletics broadcast, for example, achieved a pretty good 11.2 percent.
