Jack Black & Jason Momoa experience crazy live-action video game adventure

“Minecraft” is one of the most popular games of all time. So it was only a matter of time before the pixel fun found its way to the big screen.

After we were recently blessed with a video game adaptation called “Borderlands” that we definitely could have done without, gaming fans can now place their hopes in the next big video game adaptation: “Minecraft”The first trailer shows you what to expect.

The video game “Minecraft” doesn't really have a story. The game is much more about exploring the world, collecting resources and, above all, building. According to the “Minecraft” wiki, plans for a “Minecraft” film were not announced to the developer studio Notch in February 2014, but it took a while before production started. Now the trailer confirms that the film will soon be in cinemas.

However, a story has now been created for the “Minecraft” film that is intended to lead the audience through the colorful block world: The nasty Ender Dragon is about to raze the upper world to the ground, but the fantastic creature does not expect human resistance in the form of a group of extraordinary adventurers. Because Garrett Garrison (Jason Momoa), Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen), Natalie (Emma Myers) and Dawn (Danielle Brooks) land in the video game world through a magical portal and face the gigantic beast. They also receive support from the iconic video game character Steve (Jack Black). The first trailer tells you which direction the adventure is going:

The contributors of “Minecraft”

Over the past few years, many names have been mentioned regarding the director position for the “Minecraft” film – for example, Shawn Levy (“Deadpool & Wolverine”), who left the project. Ultimately, Jared Hess (“Napoleon Dynamite”) directed the video game and filmed it based on a screenplay by Chris Bowman (“Masterminds”), Rob McElhenney (“It’s always sunny in Philadelphia”), Hubble Palmer (“American Fork”), Allison Schroeder (“Unrecognized unknowns”), Peter Sollett (“Your Honor”) and Jon Spaihts (“Doctor Strange”).

“Minecraft” will be released in German cinemas on April 3, 2025. If you want to pass the time with great video game adaptations until then, we recommend Sky’s entertainment package, with which you can stream the series “Arcane”, for example.
