Tokyo Games bronze medallist Harvinder Singh on Wednesday secured two consecutive wins to reach the quarterfinals in his bid for a consecutive Paralympics medal in archery. Earlier, Harvinder, the first Indian Paralympics medallist in archery, had knocked out Tseng Lung-Hui of Chinese Taipei 7-3 before recovering from a first set deficit to beat Setiawan Setiawan of Indonesia 6-2 in the round of 16. Para Archery Men’s Recurve Individual Open Quarterfinals Live Updates: Who is Harvinder Singh?

Harvinder comes from a farming family from Ajit Nagar in Haryana and faced considerable adversity from a young age.

When he was only one and a half years old, he contracted dengue fever and was given injections to treat it. Unfortunately, the side effects of these injections led to him losing the function of his legs.

Despite this early challenge, he discovered his passion for archery after finding inspiration at the 2012 Paralympics in London.

He made his debut at the 2017 Para Archery World Championships and finished in seventh place.
